How Much Firewood Do I Need

How much firewood you need depends on how often you burn, and Coastal Georgia's short, mild season (roughly October to March) keeps most households on the small side. Start with how you burn, not a chart
Most firewood charts are built for houses that heat with wood all winter in a cold climate. That's not how fires work here, so start with your own habit. Almost everyone falls into one of three patterns:
- The occasional burner: a fire for a cold snap, a holiday, or friends around the pit a handful of times a season.
- The evening regular: once the weather turns, a fire most nights the family is home.
- The nightly burner: a fire every night through the cold months, sometimes helping the heat along.
We won't print a made-up weeks-per-load figure for each pattern; how long a stack lasts depends on your fireplace, how big you build each fire, and how many hours it burns. What we can give you is a shorter season and a sizing method that doesn't require guessing.
A Coastal Georgia winter is shorter than the charts think
The burn season around Hinesville runs roughly October to March, and even inside those months, real cold arrives in snaps of a few days rather than a whole settled quarter. Between the snaps are mild evenings where a fire is a pleasure, not a heating plan. A stack that a northern guide would call a starter supply can carry a household here through the whole season. Size for the winter our towns actually get, not the one the internet assumes.
Let your first stack do the math
The method we suggest to new customers is simple:
- Start with one load. For most first orders that's a face cord, a stack smaller than a full cord; the full price list and sizes page spells out what that measures and costs.
- Burn normally through the first cold stretch. Don't ration it; the point is to learn your real pace.
- Look at what's left in mid-January. Around half the season is behind you by then, so if around half the stack is gone, one load was your number. Much less left, and a second load finishes the winter with room to spare.
